Why Qiklet was born: the time we lose waiting for our turn, and what your business can gain from it

The story behind Qiklet: from waiting at the car repair shop and the deli counter to a platform that gives people their time back and gives businesses real data.

The dead time we all know

You've probably been there. You're at the car repair shop waiting for an oil change or a flat tyre to be fixed. You're in line at the deli counter, holding a little paper ticket. You're at the hair salon without an appointment, or at the customer service desk of a department store… And it's always the same: you stand there staring at a screen, afraid to move in case you miss your turn.

It happened to me so many times that I started adding it up. Minutes, hours, whole afternoons of life on pause. Waiting isn't the problem; what wears you out is uncertain waiting: not knowing how long it will take, and not being able to do anything in the meantime.

That's where the first idea for Qiklet came from: something that would let you move around, run an errand or grab a coffee, and come back just in time.

The question that changed everything: what does the business get?

I soon realised that a solution built only for the customer was only half a solution. Changing how you serve people takes effort for a business. What does it get in return?

The first answer was clear: a better relationship with its customers. Less tension in the waiting room, fewer people walking out when they see the line, and less time spent by the team answering “how much longer?”.

But I wanted to go one step further. If we're already managing the queue, why not measure what happens in it? Many businesses run in-person service on gut feeling. We wrote about it in The blind spot in your operations. With data, bottlenecks finally become visible.

That's why Qiklet is more than a “Next” button

That button is what the customer sees. Behind it, Qiklet measures what really matters for improving:

  • Waiting time and service time, separately.

  • Workload per station (each queue or desk).

  • Turn trends and peak hours, so you can plan your staff before the waiting room fills up.

  • Customer satisfaction, from registered users only, so the data is reliable.

  • A real-time dashboard where a manager can see how every station is doing and make decisions on the spot: open another desk, move the team around or warn about a delay.

And we're working on the next step: using AI to analyse that data for you, so there's as little friction as possible between your data and your decisions.

What a Saturday looks like with Qiklet

Think of Laura, who runs a neighbourhood veterinary clinic. On Saturday morning the waiting room is full, two dogs won't stop barking and a customer asks for the third time how long it will be. Another one leaves without a word.

One evening, Laura prints a QR code and sticks it on the reception desk. The following Saturday, her customers scan it, without downloading any app, and take their pets for a walk. Their phone lets them know when their turn is coming up. The waiting room is calm, and so is Laura. On Monday she opens the analytics and sees what time she needs extra hands.

What we're hearing

I'll be upfront with you. In our tests with real businesses, the feedback has been very positive. Even so, we know taking the step isn't easy. The doubts we hear most are fair ones:

  • “Will it pay off?” That's why you get 30 days free, no card and no commitment.

  • “Will it make my team's life harder?” It's a QR code and a button. No hardware, no installation.

  • “What about my older customers?” If they can open their phone's camera, they can use Qiklet.

  • “What if it fails at peak time?” Try it during your own peak hours in the free trial and decide with your own data.

Come and try it

We're more active on social media now because we want to find the businesses whose day-to-day Qiklet can really change. If your customers wait for their turn, try Qiklet free for 30 days.

And if you run into any obstacle while trying it, tell us. There's a Feedback button on every screen of the platform, and you can also email me at fsarmiento@qiklet.com. Let's talk and improve it together.

Thank you for reading this far. We build Qiklet to optimise processes and give people their time back.

We eliminate uncertain waiting. Made with care to save time.
